I can't even describe my anger. Not just because it was my favorite plant (I've had it 3+ years), but just the fact that someone would come up my onto my porch, and steal a potted plant is utterly rediculous. Of course, as I was standing in shock that my plant was gone, a cop car went by. I wanted to run out to him and scream bloody murder, but no one cares that a stupid plant is gone.
My girlfriend's cat got hit in the road on Friday as well. Let's just say that hasn't been a fun experience. She was deeply attached to it, and we have pictures of it all over our apartment. After her initial tears and breakdown wore off, the memories come rushing back every time one of the pictures is seen by her. I'm not a "cat person" at all, but it still sucks seeing her hurt so deeply. It obviously then affects me as well.
First the cat, now the plant. Little things always seem to hurt the most. Maybe it was a local homeless person that took the plant, maybe it was a drunk person coming home from the bar, who knows. If the lady that hit the cat didn't stop and actually search out whose cat it was, I would think even less of our society than I do right now.
Frustrated.
And for you too, really. I suppose there are those who say it's silly, but I have some plants I'm quite attached to - I have a couple that are 10 years or so old, and one that's 20 (not kidding.... it's a dracaena that was in a dish garden my daughter gave me after surgery in 1984 - was about 3 inches tall to begin with, now is about 3 feet tall, with two "additions"; blooms a couple of times a year....)
I certainly hope you have a long while now of "good weather" - you both deserve it. And btw, that's a GORGEOUS coleus variety!
I defense of the homeless people, I have doubts about them taking the plant. I've been there - to some extent still am - and I know they (we) aren't all above reproach, but plant stealing doesn't make sense. I'd be looking over backyard fences in the neighborhood.
