Yes, quite, the factory has ceased production...

Oh.... sorry, I just wasn't aware.... not a surprise I suppose considering my age.

Few people understand that there was a single limited production run of domains back in 1997.

Then the dies were destroyed.

The main problem I see is that when the real domain names run out they'll start making counterfeits.

I heard the used ones were OK, you just had to make sure it had not been previously abused. Too bad though.. I was hoping to get a new one of my own someday.

why, back when the net was younger, ya had to walk five miles through the snow, and back, just to find a domain name. We dinna need hyphens or underscores in it back then. We'd register a simple domain name that ended in .com, and we figured that was enough, or at least it ought to be enough.

This isn't the real problem - that will be a few years down the road when parts start to get scarce for the European domains. A new 'q' for that .be name is gonna cost you...

My dad told me that in the old days, domain names would just be grazing in the fields and anybody could just walk up and take one.

...he's currently under sedation...

I heard domain production got outsourced to Indonesia... they are building state-of-the-art facilities, and production will resume middle of next year.

. . . when parts start to get scarce for the European domains

Can anyone confirm that when the new .eu domains come out they're going to be right-sided, unlike the left-sided .com and .co.uk domains?

if that means they'll all have Indonesian sounding names ..I can see we'll all go back to using IP numbers :{

Phoo.

Learn to make your own.

Sad when people get so dependent on industry they forget how to do anything for themselves. Everyone knows homemade is better anyhow.

It's funny you mention that mivox-
