I have had a widescreen hdtv for a couple years and it is really frustrating how little programming is available in widesccreen/hd format. Any experts know when we can expect to see a complete transition for most programming?

I currently get about 14 channels:

HBO-HD
Showtime-HD
INHD
INHD2
HDNet
HDNet Movies
TNT-HD
Fox Sports HD
Discovery HD
PBS-DT
CBS-DT
NBC-DT
ABC-DT
FOX (Only in 480p not HD Yet)

They only play HD when the shows are in HD, several of the stations are in HD 24/7 though.

Last year I only has 3 channels, so it is definatley getting better. I think it will be 2 more years until we see everything in HD.

It all depends on numbers. It'll never gain any popularity as it stands now.

What working family can afford to drop $3000+ on a TV set?

Besides, there's still not going to be anything on that is worth watching or that would justify enduring that sort of absurd expense.

I used to have cable. Just a waste of money so 8 years ago I cut it off.

Personally I get by with a 19" TV set rescued from the garbage, and a pair of "rabbit ears" antennae. I get about 20 channels and even out of these there is usually nothing on. My son uses it for his children's shows (he's 6) and my wife likes sports.

I can live without TV very happily, otherwise.
