Started off with a $50 classical guitar in 1971. Bought a Stratocaster a year or so later. Got married and couldn't afford an amp so I sold the Strat. Lost track of the box guitar at some point. I ordered a cheap acoustic off one of the shopping channels a year or so ago. Just got the itch for an electric but didn't want to spend a lot of money.

Just ordered THIS [musicyo.com]. Reviews can be found HERE [harmony-central.com]

Needed an amp, so I ordered THIS [musiciansfriend.com].

For less than $300 I'm in business.

Since my house has a garage, I guess I'm set. Oh yeah, wife said she is the only groupie I can have. That's ok with me. :)

Now there goes all your free time! :)

You think you can play it while moderating the board?

lawman, I never pictured you with an electric guitar. Who are your favorite guitarists or favorite bands? I have a weak spot for Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew (King Crimson).

Will you post us some MP3?

>>Who are your favorite guitarists or favorite bands?

Too many to mention them all. James Marshall Hendrix is at the top of the heap. Throw in a little Nugent, some Airplane, Creedence, Offspring, mixed with some Steve Miller, Donovan, and Rory Gallagher . . . you get the idea.

Rock on, man! This is what life's all about.

Note: Owing to the passage of time, Abbie Hoffman's 1960s slogan "Don't trust anyone over 30" has now been amended to "Don't trusty anyone over 65".

lawman, there's one thing you still need: a distortion pedal [interactive.musicyo.com]!

And a distortion pedal just has to go hand in hand with a wah-wah pedal ;-)

Ah, this thread brings me back to when I gave myself a hernia lugging a '66 Fender Twin around ;-)

If I got THIS [musiciansfriend.com] would I sound like Jimi? ;)

Yes, but you'd need to pour some of this [ronsoncorp.com] all over it, then take one of these [ronsoncorp.com] to it all whilst playing the thing re-strung upside down. With your teeth.

These are the reasons why it's not easy to sound like Jimi.

Nice guitar, are you by any chance getting ready for the good old banjo duel? [absastro.tripod.com] ;)

Along, of course, with his enormous talent :)

Who would have thought...

That pretty much nails it, lawman. Next time I wander out to your part of the country I'm looking you up :) You do need a drummer, right?

Hey grandpa. My brother (also a lawyer) plays drums, but we can make like the Allman Brothers. The more the merrier. :)

the Allman Brothers

A pretty lofty goal.
I'd be sooo happy to join up with another drummer.. 2 more days. Does he play a drum kit, or more exotic stuff like conga, djembe, doumbek.
I used to play one of these [provide.net]. Mine was a 72. This fellow [jackbruce.com] was my inspiration back then.

Practice, practice, practice.

Definitely could use a bass player. Heck I only know a few chords so I guess we need a guitar player too. :)

Oh, my brother has a kit and some exotic stuff. He's pretty damn good - much better drummer than I am a guitar player. He was in a three piece band that was booked every weekend and actually made money playing cover songs to drunks.

The worlds best ever bass has "hounddog" ....plus you gotta play heavy bass to keep the horns respectfull..

A good blues sax player would be neat ...

On another note ...most kids today just cannot beleive when they hear "jimi" for the first time ...that he died so long ago ..RIP ....

lawman, looks like you have all the hardware for the Jimi sound. Just need some Software [channels.apollolife.com] to TRULY sound like Jimi!

Don't forget about one of my old favorites: SRV [comp.uark.edu]

Rented a drum kit for my daughter a couple months ago. She doesn't touch em but I find myself wandering down to the basement every once in a while to thrash on them.

After a few pops I think I sound pretty good.

Lawman next time I see you I should show you some good hendrix licks. Purple haze and all along the watch tower are pretty easy, but sound real cool. I can just imagine you playing smoke on the water at 8 on your amp with your wife thinking, "Doesn't that ever get old."

I am surprized you went with that model, this looks [musiciansfriend.com] like more your style.

Hey korkus2000. I've always liked the classic Strat look. I got the guitar in yesterday and the amp in today. One of my oversimplified philosophies on life follows:

Life is a continuous series of expectations. Your feelings depend upon whether circumstances met, exceeded or failed to meet expectations.

After plugging this thing in and trying various settings, lawman have big smile on face. :)

*guffaw* Gads, has that been anyone's style since the mid 80's?

big smile

I bet! Man, makes me want to dig out some of my own old hobbies now... Luckily, I still have most of my old art supplies around the house, so I won't have to go shopping.

Doesn't anyone around here like Jeff Beck?
He, he, he, lawman, music is so good for the soul!
I could never consider selling the olympic white maple neck strat I bought way back in '73.
As to sounding like Jimi, they say 50% of the sound comes from your fingers. Better get digging... ;)

I feel your bliss ;-)

After having my Teisco DelRay electric guitar ripped off in 1978 I didn't buy another electric guitar until
2001 when I bought my dream guitar, a Fender American Standard Stratocaster, along with a Fender Twim Reverb Amp. Love that tinney sound and that wattage. I get almost as good a buzz from playing today as I had when I was playing back in 1967, only sans the accompaniment of Maryjane. Gotta be really old to crack that code ;-)

The year I bought the Strat was also the year my 15 year old son decided to play the guitar, so my dream was promptly ...borrowed. This year I bought him a Fender Jazzmaster bass guitar and amp, and reclaimed my Stratocaster.

Now, we jam together once in awhile and we really crank it up.

Guitars make life good ;-)

Update:

Wife told me she liked my acoustic guitar better. I now play with headphones plugged into the amp. Not exactly the same sound, but not bad.

Next thing you know Mrs. lawman'll tell me she won't be my groupie.

If you are being relegated to headphones then nothing beats the behringer v-amp for price/performance. For about $140 you get an amp modeler that is great for headphones and plugging into your PC.

Lawman - forget the headphones - get out and start playing live. Nothing else will really improve your playing than a little adrenalin.

Seek out a few jams at your local blues bar as a break-in. 99% of them are very friendly......

Not a bad idea trillianjedi. If they start looking at each other during my set, I'll just smash the amp and set the guitar on fire before they figure out I can't play.
