I have recently purchased a disk with a commodore 64 emulator called win64. On this disk is basically the emulator and a bunch of roms to go with it, like all the stuff you can download off the internet.

I am having trouble making this stuff work. Some of the games refuse to load at all. In fact it is emulating my old C64 in ways that I could do without! International Karate + never was the same after my dad spilt a cup of tea on it, but that's another story.

Of the games which do load I am having problems controlling them - the disk says that the games should be controlled using the numeric keypad - I've got a laptop and there is no numeric keypad! The normal number keys don't seem to work. I know I can buy a numeric keypad to plug in, but is it worth the hassle?

Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Personally I would reccomend plugging in a normal ps2 keyboard to your laptop, I had a look at it and it's made for 95\NT So if you're running XP some of your problems may lie there. :)

Ive never tired win64 and havent heard of it until today have you tried YAPE? Im not sure if its compatible with 64, I havent had any problems with it. And its updated regularly. And then there is CCS64.

I've got a laptop and there is no numeric keypad!

Are you sure? Most laptops have a num-lock button and then replicate the numeric keypad over on the right hand side (usually around the "I O P" "K L :" region.

Might not be the easiest to use though...

Cheers for the replies guys :)

I have managed to make one game work but it crashed half way through. Oh the nostalgia!

I don't think there's a socket for that.

I do have a num lock button but it doesn't seem to make any of the letters appear as numbers - I take it that's what it should do?

Just been to my laptop manufacturer's support site and found that...

"The internal NumLock function is disabled by default in the BIOS."

Ugh. I really don't want to go and fiddle with that.

(external keyboard)...I don't think there's a socket for that.

That surprises me?

It'll be a round socket probably with a mouse and/or keyboard "glyph" printed next to it.

I don't think I've seen a laptop that doesn't have one for many years...

HelenDev: that particular BIOS tweak isn't a big deal. Just F10 or whatever to the setup screens, then navigate to whichever panel contains the numlock state (varies depending on BIOS mfr.), and reset the default.

It's a good idea to become familiar with the BIOS screens, selections per panel, etc. Just go take a look.... don't change anything at first, but become familiar with what's where. Then just change the numlock default. It won't disable anything else, and should help you do what you want with your emulator and games.
