Today I had an awful craving for something sweet. And since I had been extraordinarily good these past few weeks I actually dared to consider answering the call. But then I had to decide.

DO I go for the Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk or the Vanilla? (It's awfully nice of them to package their dairy delights in single serving containers)

Or should I get a Snickers or Hershey's Dark Chocolate? Chocolate, caramel, and peanuts is a strong temptation but then there's something very seductive about an unadulturate rich dark chocolate candy bar. Sure the gourmet chocolates are great but Hershey's was what I grew up with and it's a low-cost sugar fix.

But then I have an affinity for pies too. Would I feel more satiated with a piece of blueberry pie with whipped cream or apple pie complete with a slice of cheddar cheese? Or how about a double dark fudge brownie with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream and maybe a few chocolate chip cookies thrown in for good measure.

But then again, there's always a banana mango smoothie or the traditional brown cow (some folks call these rootbeer floats).

Hm.... how's a fella to decide?!

I love THIS [chickfila.com] with blueberry topping.

Can't go wrong with artificial flavor [artificial compounds, vanilla flavoring], dried whole eggs, disodium phosphate, corn starch, cellulose gum, carrageenan, monoglycerides and diglycerides [from soybean oil], sodium phosphate, guar gum, sodium citrate, annatto and caramel colors, cooked milk flavor, Yellow #5 and yellow #6.

I pretty much kicked my sweet tooth habit over the past few years. Hands down, my favorite treat used to be an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Now I drink club soda with a twist of lime and don't really miss the Coke.

If you twist my arm, I'll eat a banana split, but I'll make Brett eat at least half of it!

But other than that, I don't have as much of a sweet tooth as I do cravings for starchy fried food (which I've also pretty much stopped eating). Just don't tempt me with "Boardwalk" style fries (fried in peanut oil) because I'll break.

I have a weak spot for Chocolate Marquise [cuisinearts.com].

For 4 servings

1/4 pound butter
1/4 pound black chocolate
1/3 pound icing sugar
5 eggs
1/4 cup bitter cocoa powder
1/4 cup of chocolate syrup
4 cherries (or other fruits to decorate)
a pinch of salt

In a thick pan, melt chocolate on low heat. Add icing sugar beating with a whip. Add diced butter gradually and beat for a minute. Gradually blend egg yolks one at a time. Remove from heat.

Beat egg whites into snow (that is where you need the salt) and gently blend with the mix. Pour into 4 round marquise molds and refrigerate for 12 hours. Delicately remove from the mold and sift a thin layer of cocoa powder on it. Decorate the service plate with chocolate sauce and place the marquise on the sauce in the center of the plate. Decorate with a cherry or any fruit slices that looks good.

Enjoy!

this stuff will kill me!

apple pie complete with a slice of cheddar cheese

Ew!

I think you've got your courses mixed up here! Or is this one of those American things, like putting syrup on bacon?

Never tried the apple pie and cheddar mix. I do agree that apple and a good mature cheddar or stilton make a great combination.

I prefer my pie's with lashings of home made custard - my only real sugar weakness! or cinnamon and apple crumble mmmmmnnnnn! or apple pie and jersey vanilla ice cream....

cor, right, now I'm off for lunch and find me a good baker...

LOL! Probably unique to New Englanders. We like the sharpness of the cheese to offset the sweetness of the pie. If you think that's odd - try sour pickles after having sugar-on-snow (warmed maple-syrup drizzled over fresh packed snow). Another New England tradition.

Speaking of Ben & Jerry's: have you tried their new Karamel Sutra?

A Core of Soft Caramel Encircled by Chocolate & Caramel Ice Creams & Fudge Chips

Yep, I love those "single serving" sizes too! :)

New Englanders have this right, but I am not sure about sour pickles after having sugar-on-snow.

What about Roquefort and Tiramisu with a small glass of old Porto?

sugar-on-snow

Ah, la tire sur la neige! It's a tradition here (in Québec), too, but even though I have a sweet tooth, I just can't handle that much of a sugar hit.

However, as we're speaking of maple syrup, how about pancakes filled with strawberries, covered in cream and drizzled with ample quantities of maple syrup. The perfect breakfast, hmmm...

As for Macguru's Marquise, it is making me hungry - I've never made one, but there is a patisserie not far which sells some quite exquisite marquises.

putting syrup on bacon

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, bacon....... with........ syrup.......

must go heat up stovetop now

But besides my craving for bacon now, I really don't have a sweet tooth. Can't really stand candy, really do hate chocolate.

I don't drink soda, don't eat chocolate.

If I need to satisfy the urge, I'll just get a glass of orange juice.

Back to my bacon with syrup...

I have a soft spot for those really cheap ice cream sandwiches with the mushy chocolate cookies outside and vanilla ice cream center.

That's about a once or twice a year indulgence though. My real weakness is salty stuff: potato chips (crisps) and beef jerky.

Bite-size Milky-Ways. Alternatively, bite-size Baby Ruths.

I can't get Belgian here; and Godiva has REALLY gone downhill lately. The above-listed are available at Costco, at a very reasonable price.

Sometimes available is more important.

Oh. My..... oy. How - decadent. SINFUL even....

"Everything I LIKE is either illegal, immoral, OR FATTENING!" 100% the latter, I'm too old to bother with the other two.... way too much trouble....

But fattening.... yup. I can do that. No problem at all. *sigh*
