Stephanie Willett said she was eating a PayDay bar on an escalator descending into a station July 16 when an officer warned her to finish it before entering the station. Both Willett and police agree that she nodded and put the last bit into her mouth before throwing the wrapper into a trash can.

``Don't you have some other crimes you have to take care of?''
Isn't saying something like that breaking rule 101 of How not to get arrested?.
Personally I would have done the same thing she did (minus the comment) and while I don't ride the subway regularly I am from New York. This whole thing reminds me of "Alice's Restaurant" maybe she should go sit over on the Group W Bench.
BTW I though he meant tilt as in "pinball" ...?
See, they asked for her ID though - only because she had been eating candy and made a smart alec comment. That is what she ignored. Hell, I probably would have too (but also wouldn't have made the comment aloud) because they had no cause to ask for it. Arrested and handcuffed? Cmon, there is no way that is neccessary and anything other than a cop getting his, um, power high and a waste of taxpayer money.
Some of Metro's board members want to review the enforcement of the "no eating" rule.
"It's a question of striking the right balance," said D.C. Council member Jim Graham, who represents the District on the Metro board. "I'm not advocating to lift the rule or relax the rule; I'm looking for ways to avoid people ending up in handcuffs for chewing a candy bar."Charles Deegan, who represents Prince George's County on the board, said he thought the Transit Police officer who made the arrest overreacted. "She probably needs -- what do you call it? -- an attitude adjustment," said Deegan, who joined Graham and board member Gladys W. Mack of the District in calling for a review of the policy.

So was at first glance, but on looking closer there weren't any taken apart computers and old monitors in the room so I knew it was a kindred spirit and not me.

Right. And when he said he got arrested for littering they all moved away from him on the bench. But that is where she missed it, graywolf. She could have been a heroine, the Rosa Parks of the DC Metro. Rather than submit, the woman could have lain down on the floor and refused to move so that they would have had to call in reinforcements to pick her up and carry her off. News photographers, TV cameras, reporters and all would have covered it. Now that would have been proper protest, not to just continue chewing.
And speaking of chewing, in her place I would not have continued chewing and swallowed the candy. She could easily have stashed it in her cheek like hamsters stash food, and saved it for later use.
...compared to France ..Switzerland is so clean ..makes you wonder why the Swiss even allow the two countries to touch ...
Don't forget that Switzerland lies at the top - allowing them to dump their junk and swill on all their neighbours. Like when Sandoz and Ciba-Geigy killed The Rhine river back in 1986 - or Hoffmann-La Roche's dioxin incident in Italy in 1976.
