... and here I was totally inraptured with the Canadian International Turtle Derby [boissevain.ca] not realizing for a minute that frogs were invading Canada in Biblical perportions! Where's Moses when you need him?

My gosh. That's kind of like why Hawai'i isn't thrilled with feral pigs.

Feral frogs. Ugh. Now, I LIKE frogs, n toads, n lizards n snakes. But I don't want thousands of them dragging my cats into the fish ponds - poor kitty....

So you treat them like you do mosquitos - literally: you oil the ponds in which they breed. Yes, it will hurt the fisheries too, but then again, the frogs are ALREADY doing that, aren't they? With oil slick on the water, the tads can't rise to breathe when they get to that stage, so they die.... then of course you DO have to clean the pond and restock it, but that's better than rampant bullfrogs (oy - THERE'S a picture!)

Seems to me that I remember my cousin in Arkansas saying the state's wildlife folks did something else tricky with bullfrogs a few years back - not sure, but Canada might like to go surfing in Arkansas's .gov site.

<snip>

[When my husband was a child, 60+ years ago, there were still bullfrogs, treefrogs, and fireflies in southern Utah. Long long gone now....]
