I am looking to buy my first MAC (ibook) but have been reading about their new operating system. Does anyone know when it will be released? I assume it is better to wait for one of 2 reasons, the older OS will be discounted, or the new OS will be close to the same price.
Any MAC insight would be much appreciated.

Hi Acternaweb,
According to this thread [webmasterworld.com], Tiger will be available sometimes during the first half of 2005.

Thanks that helps.
Have you ever purchased from MacMall? It is hard to tell if they are a true reseller and even harder to tell if they have better prices.
Any thoughts?

I tend to support my local shop. Profit margings are slim and prices are quite similar from one shop to another. Difference is rarerly worth the shipping charges, not to mention the trouble if something goes wrong.

MacMall has very competitive prices. I've been shopping with them for years. I don't have a local shop, so online/catalog is my only option.

Thanks for the info. Not sure I have a local shop either.
MacMall seems to rely on rebates, are they loyal about honoring them?

I've only used rebates a couple of times, but didn't have any problem with them.

Amazon has a nice rebate for the model I want. The price is better than Apple's education price. I was told that Apple doesn't match prices
MacMall had more upgrades but there is a great deal of confusion with all the paper work.
