Ultimately, Google's long term success will have a great deal to do with the MS invasion of the search industry. Their biggest weapon is their operating system. My sister and I feel that in order for Google to survive that kind of onslaught, Google will have to figure out how to protect about the integration of search into Windows.
My thought is that Gmail, and other initatives, is more about getting activity off of the desktop and on to the web. What good is integrated search going to be if all of your data is online? Google's engineers are waaay better at coding for the web sphere than MS engineers.
The other thought is that maybe Google will take their billions and develop their own operating system. We all know they already have a custom operating system for their super computer, but maybe they plan to launch a desktop version. Maybe it will integrate with the Google mother computer? Wouldn't that be wild?
