Epson Stylus Photo R300M vs Canon i960

Finally narrowed down my selection of printers to two, but would like any thoughts/votes. The printer will be used primarlily for photos, but will be printing 8x10's so a photo printer doesn't work.

The Canon has all but positive press, but is it hoopla? The Epson has mixed reviews, but I saw a printout and was quite impressed. The Canon is cheaper, which kinda scares me (you get what you pay for..)

I'd go for the Epson printer, hands down.

I will ditto DrDoc, but go would go Cannon for a semi-professional scanner.

I have an i950 (the older model) and definitely have no complaints with it.

But the only reason I didn't go with an Epson at the time was because their was no equivalently priced Epson that had separate ink cartridges for each colour.

So speaking out of pure ignorance of the product in question, if it doesn't have separate ink cartridges you should think twice about it.

Don't get an Epson unless you *know* you're going to be using it very regularly... I had two Epsons go to the big print-shop in the sky because they sat unused, the ink dried in the print head, and they never worked again.

If your printer is ever going to be left unused for more than a week, make sure you get one with the print heads built-in to the ink cartridges.

That said, if you're going to be printing all the time, go for the Epson. The print quality is superb.

The spec sheet for Epson says "6-color dye based (individual ink cartridges)"

Canon says "six individual ink tanks coupled with an intelligent ink management system."
