I have a confession to make

Ok... I'll just come out and say it.

I'm not a Canadian.

"Gasp" you say.

Yeah, I know I have been propogating this untruth for sometime now but I feel it's best for all of us if I just come clean.

:) Actually, tomorrow is a very big day for me and my family. After living for more than 30 years in what I believe to be the best country in the world, I'm finally going to be sworn in as a citizen.

For some reason I have this primal urge to throw on a toque and head out for a box of donuts.

;-)

I've still got 11 months to go before I can apply - but the date's marked in the calendar and my application will be send on the very first day. So tell us, why did you wait so long? Inertia? Fear of the citizenship exam?!

In any case, congratulations and I hope you have a great time tomorrow! (Oh, and we say "tuque" here in these parts. Vive la différence...!)

Thank goodness - I thought this was going to be another post about your feet.

The Canadians can have you. :) The rest of us will get by, somehow.

Canada got pmac; USA got Pamela Anderson [msnbc.msn.com]. :)

She took a 10 question test and had to carry on a conversation for 7 minutes without saying "eh". ;)

“I felt it was important to become a U.S. citizen in order to vote in the United States,” Anderson said Wednesday. “I have no intention of giving up my citizenship in Canada and am very proud to be a Canadian.”

She's just on loan. We can re-call her anythime we want.

Congrats PMac. Remember to celebrate by rushing out to by a new toque, hockey stick, and a two-four of beer, eh? And none of that fancy schmancy brewery stuff, Ranier, Black Label, or good ol' Canadian, eh!

Well,

with great celebration [science.ksc.nasa.gov] and fanfare, I was sworn in as an official Canadian today. As you can see, it was a very proud day [members.rogers.com]. Thanks everybody for the best wishes.

Simple, when pmac moved to Canada [pourvoiriechibougamau.com], Pamella Anderson fled to the USA [wallpaperbytlc.com] for some reason, eh. So it took a while for us to allow him to call himself a true Canadian [niagaratransit.com].

True story!

congrats pmac!

But you're telling me, you had to wait for 30 years just to get a citizenship?
We only have to wait for 4 years in NZ. I got my citizenship in 1994 :)

Good luck canadian fella..

>30 years just to get a citizenship? <

nah, I'm pretty sure you just have to be in the country for 5 years, we just never got around to it. :)

On another note, I was passing around my new Canadian identity card to my mates in the pub and one of them noticed that they put "F" instead of "M" as the gender.

I guess that explains why when earlier in the day while I was at the local mall, I felt compelled by some powerful force field to enter every womens shoe store that I passed.

lay off on the feet jokes eh.

Don't take this the wrong way (and I'm sure it doesn't apply to those who voluntarily applied to become Canadian) but judging by the few tens of Canadians I've met, I find Canada to be one of the most disturbingly patriotic nations in the world.

I'm disgusted to be British.

And quite right too.

Right now I am listening to my favourite Canadian: Oscar Peterson.

Hymn to Freedom. Ah, lovely!

<added>
He gets excellent support from two Americans: Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen.

"F" instead of "M"

They did something similar on my driver's license - switched the last two digits around of my DOB. It was fun being 84 years old, until I got pulled over for speeding.

Boy, was that a mess.

Congrats pmac! :-)
