It's that time of year when Europeans all sit down in front of the telly for an evening of questionable music, dodgy costumes and politically motivated voting.

In the UK, this is much helped along by the witticisms of Terry Wogan, and a great deal of alcohol. We will be hoping to improve on the 'nil points' of last year.

This year, for the first time, I am having a Eurovision party. Will any other people here be doing anything? Do other European countries enjoy it as much as us Brits do?

It's the semi-final tonight (although I think this is only screened on digital tv in the UK so I won't see it :( ) and the final is on Saturday night.

I think there are parties across Europe. Some friends of mine are organizing one but I'm still not sure whether I go or not because it's not better than any MTV Video Music Awards.

I hope Max (Germany) wins. :) Germany, 12 points. ;)

When I was a child living in Denmark, the eurovison song contest was a big big thing for us as a family.

I remember 1 year when our TV broke, and the old lady upstairs let me and my 2 brothers stay in her house to watch it.

she even gave us some lovely Madeira Cake

those were the days

In Australia we love Terry Wogan, last year they used there own commentator instead of him and the uproar was so great they replayed his version.

Wow, they show it in Australia?! I didn't know that. Yeah, it wouldn't be the same without Terry Wogan :)

To me, Terry Wogan IS Eurovision.

I especially love the comments he makes on all the mini videos for each of the countries. Marvellous!

We are trying to think of a good drinking game we can play whilst watching it this year.. everybody pulls a country out of a hat and drinks are drunk as per votes received or something.. any ideas anyone?

Surely the UK can't do any worse than we did last year ;)

Not unless they start dishing out minus points.

Brilliant :D

... Ooh, and remember to have Ceefax turned on for some unique translations of those Europop lyrics…

Never knew about that! Extra fun :)

Well, Switzerland did worse than the last time. Then (think it was 2 years ago), we got 0 points in the finals, this time we got 0 points in the semi-finals...

Jools Holland on Friday night and the Eurovision song contest on Saturday night. Talk about two ends of the spectrum?

I watched Eurovision (Urinevision?) because my wife wanted to watch it and all I can say that if it had not been for Terry Wogan's wit it would have been excruciating. I think I would prefer to drill holes in my skull with a blunt hammer drill!

What about the extras from Planet of the Apes who won this year? What was all that about?
