Sony digital camera - memory card

Just bought a sony digital camera and looking for new memory cards. Noticed there are a few different vendors and kinds that fit the Sony camera.

Has anyone used the "new" Memory Stick PRO™ Media
that Sony has?

Does quality diminish if I use a generic brand?

Get a cheap MP3 player and hardware hack the mini-HD out of it, most mem for the $.

There was an article in wired about how to do it a month or so ago. Not that hard, actually.

The Muvo2 retails for about half of what it would cost to get 4 GB in memory sticks.
