I guess what is it used for is the proper question but it is what it is used for.
It was used a some kind of 'key' to protect networked PCs. It was also used to prevent software piracy. Some high end software came with those. To use the softare, you needed that gizmo plugged into the PC.
it is a dongle but it has a specific name and function.

the "verification" is what defines this specific dongle's purpose for being. Verification wouldn't even really be the right word for what this does.

I dont know what doodad this specific dongle is about, but you just made me notice that Y! advanced image search seems to still use the GG index.

Does it's cryptography supports Assembler and FORTRAN?
Some disk encryption software used a hardware dongle that contained the key, so that if you took the dongle with you, the data was theoretically unusable. Is it something like this?
Also, by the geneder, it appears that it would plug into the old DB25 serial port, is that correct? Cause I would think it would be of the oppisite gender if would plug into the common db25 parralel port.
