For the past two weeks I have been unable to email some google.com addresses and here are some of the errors:

'help@google.com' on 10/03/2004 09:43
550 not local host google.com, not a gateway

help@google.com
SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host smtp2.google.com [216.239.37.25]: 553 5.0.0 Header Error

webmaster@google.com
SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host smtp1.google.com [216.239.57.25]: 553 5.0.0 Header Error

toolbar-support@google.com
SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host smtp1.google.com [216.239.57.25]: 553 5.0.0 Header Error

I have no problems mailing other domains. All suggestions welcome.

Have you added an entry for google.com in your hosts file recently? You might have added one to get the results of a particular datacenter during an update...

No. 3 of the above were done with a webmail app while I was at Pubcon, so I have used two different SMTP servers to send my mail.

In case anyone is interested, here is the solution:

Ensure that you send your email from the domain's own SMTP server, not your own ISP.
