Playing DVD’s on Dell Laptop

Got a dell d800 which has a DVD player and XP. However it wont play them A little bit of investigation tells me that I don’t have the required decoder. Can any of you recommend a free one or a way of viewing them on my PC?

what software are you using? wmedia player?

winDVD has always worked for me, or PowerDVD, though I've never used XP :/

I can recommend using Power DVD on XP.
