There was one a number of years (maybe 30, 35?) ago here in the states. This one was intentional:
The story goes that there was a beached whale, and they decided since they couldn't do anything with it, they were going to stick a half-ton of dynamite into it and blow it into little bits.
It worked well in theory, but in practice, the whale blew in to big bits, and demolished nearby cars, injured people, etc.
Google around for "exploding whale" - the news footage is still on the net.
