Bob Keeshan, who gently entertained generations of youngsters as TV's walrus-mustachioed Captain Kangaroo and became an outspoken advocate of less violence and more intelligence on children's television, died Friday at 76.

Yeah, Captain Kangaroo and Mr Rogers in one year. Sad!

When I was a child, and living with my Grandmother for the summer, I used to watch the Captain Kangaroo Show every morning.

(I especially loved Mr. Moose as well as "Tom Terrific and Manfred the Mighty Wonder Dog".)

Good-bye old friend....

I honestly thought Captain Kangaroo had already passed away. I'm also really surprised that he was so young. I thought for sure that when I was a kid, he was already in his 70's.

After Mr. Rogers going too, please don't anyone tell me that anything happened to Hobo Kelly (http://latvlegends.com/HoboKelly/hobokelly.htm) - as a kid, I loved her. Until just today, I couldn't figure out why most of my online friends had never heard of her, but I now realize that her show was just in Los Angeles.

I think the fellow who played Mr. Green Jeans went a year or two ago.

All the childhood heros are leaving us. I wonder sometimes if my kids will ever lament the passing of one of theirs. As far as I know, cartoons don't really die. Well, I suppose they do have TeleTubbies and Barney. *cringe*
