The typical Internet user -- far from being a geek -- shuns television and actively socializes with friends, a study on surfing habits said Wednesday.

Instead, the typical Internet user is an avid reader of books and spends more time engaged in social activities than the non-user, it says. And, television viewing is down among some Internet users by as much as five hours per week compared with Net abstainers, the study added.
Well, I can only speak for myself that aside from weekend sports, the only TV I ever watch now is ... ahem ... Survivor. (ssshhhhhh!) Oh, and I do try to catch Curb Your Enthusiasm but the first couple episodes this season don't seem as good as last year.
Anyway, I identify fully with the study results and while I was never ashamed to be called a "geek" by others, am proud to now say I'm normal (for lack of a better word!).
Hang on, lemme look it up on the Innernet
I tried that. It don't work.
Tells me something 'bout Microsystems - maybe this sun is a microbe. Also says about java - where presumably this sun is. (Sounds like a nice place though). Then it says Solaris - which must be a swear word in some language. But it does get worse and I get thesun.co.uk....ugh
Maybe I need to search some more.
Hmmmmm.....TV is that a big box with moving pictures and sound.
I am sure that went out the window the other day...
Anyway I think watching a good DVD with a bottle of wine is more fun.
Nowadays their are too many channels, too many adverts and nothing unique!
Do you guys in the U.S ever get to see a british sitcom called "Red Dwarf"?

What about the book? Ever read it?
Edit: looking things up on the -ahem- internet, I see there are now several: [jupitermining.com...]
I only read the first one (Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers) but can highly recommend it. Especially if you haven't seen the tv series.
Red Dwarf
(PS - No, Pot Noodle is not *quite* the same as Cup Noodle, for those who might wonder. I thought it would be, but it's not.)
(PPS - I did not, however, see any police call boxes... as long as we're on the subject of geeky BBC sci-fi shows. Where'd the call boxes go?)
