If this had been a US courtcase I am sure he would already be behind bars.
Piracy is bad, m'kay.
However, information is never bad. Knowing how to shoot a gun, and killing somebody are two completely different things.
Cracking a weak code and showing others how to do so is not bad or evil, nor should it be illegal. Now, using that crack to copy stuff, well, that is different and fully infringes on copywrite laws.
It is knowlege vs. application, though the Office of Homeland Security may argue that point these days.
