I gave my kids a puppy last Easter. Said the Easter Bunny brought it. If it had been Xmas, I would have done it. Santa can bring puppies too.

A LOT of people impulse-buy puppies for Christmas or Easter.
Which is why the Humane Society is overrun with big, poorly-trained, often abused dogs several months later.
People think, oh how cute, a puppy.
The animal then chews up everything in their not-remotely-puppy-proofed house, and grows to a size they hadn't anticipated even though... it's a freaking Golden Lab, they grow big. But the puppy was so little!

It's an annual nightmare.

If you've been planning to get a puppy anyway, then Christmas or Easter or a birthday are as good a day as any to do so.

But for the love of God, do NOT impulse-buy an ANIMAL!
ESPECIALLY not for someone ELSE, who may or may not want such a thing. You can't just put the puppy in a box on a shelf.

I think that's what Yikdaki was trying to get across.
