Happy Bonfire Night! The fireworks have been going off for a couple of weeks now, but i'm just stuck with sparklers - 3rd floor flats aren't really suitable for much else :)

Anyone else doing anything tonight? Burning any effigies? ;)

The local kids in my area had a Brittney effigy! I am not sure they got the irony ;)

I am off to the Roundhay [db.bbc.co.uk] display tonight - Largest display in Yorkshire. Hot toddies sparklers all round.

Interestingly the BBC [news.bbc.co.uk] and Metro newspaper both have a "what if Guy succeeded" article. By all accounts he had A LOT of gunpowder!

Just spent 30 quid on fireworks. The choice was 10 rockets or a box containing about 200 tiny fireworks.

The rockets won :)

Thanks for the link about Fawkes. I knew about the celebration surrounding him but didn't know why (USA based).

I'm reading The Harry Potter series to my kids and the phoenix is named Fawkes. I got the burning allusion but when my kids asked why people burned stuff in his honor, I had no idea why and hadn't gotten around to looking it up.
