In a joint status report on Microsoft's compliance with the Windows antitrust settlement, the U.S. Justice Department warned that the "Shop for Music Online" feature that automatically loads the Internet Explorer browser on XP systems could amount to a violation of the agreement.

What about Windows Update? AFAIK it forces the user to use Internet Explorer. Isn't this really the same problem?

No, that's a different issue. Windows Update could be labeled more of a standalone application than a website (I know, I know...).

If they wanted to get around that, they could just nix the website and make a custom app.
