Ive just been told that theres a postal strike currently running in various areas of London - the Kings Cross (a big one) sorting office HAS been affected.

Not sure how long its going to last.

So beware kiddies.

I have orders to go to London, crap! Hopefully it'll not last too long or interupt Special Delivery services. At least the rest of the country is still getting served - for now anyway.

You'll find that a lot of post goes through London. Even non-London letters.

Bad news for the Post Office. But could be worse for the Postmen/women doing the strike - legally they have to give 7 days notice of a strike and they can be sacked for gross misconduct - no payout needed. Didn't the Royal Mail say they needed to get rid of staff? They are risking their own jobs and the monopoly of the Royal Mail.

Any good alternatives?

It's a 24-hour strike - relax.

gibbon, then we'd end up with a postal service similar to the the (rubbish) rail service we have which since privatisation has gone completely to the dogs and now the tax-payer is going to have to bail it out bigtime for the next decade. I can't believe that Rail Track has gotten away with such appalling mismanagement for so long. Some private companies, prolly contractors, must have made shed loads of money and not improved the state of rail transport in this country. Privatisation, no ta ;)

gibbon You're more right than you think! Someone I know well is a senior manager there and the stories they tell are really incredible - I wont repeat them here. He has been out 2 days a week for the last month delivering urgent mail as a volunteer as and when the localised strikes happen. He tells me that Deutsche Post will be privatising soon and we can kiss goodbye to Royal Mail when it happens.

-privatisation.

lol have any of them worked. Just thinking of the rail network and the extra £ billions they're needing.

I honestly can't remember the last time I sent mail. Those posties and stamp lickers should check out an invention called email ;)
