I've smoked since I was 13. 25 years later I've hopefully acquired the wisdom and the guts to quit. I'm using the patch, I get severe headaches if I just cut out nicotine entirely, and after chatting with my doctor he's agreed to let me enjoy two cigars a week, outdoors, without inhaling. :)

The bad part is, I have to give up coffee. I drink 2-3 pots a day. I'll report back in a week and let you know how this works out. I'm eating sugarless suckers, one every ten minutes. ;)

my latest trick, well, my being a daddy of course.

That worked for my brother...a smoker of ten years. It has been about 9 months for him now, and I've been an uncle for 3;)

Ya gotta find some alternate activities. I rode a bike a couple miles a day to remind me of my health as Brett had mentioned.

DH, I wouldn't get so bent about slipping if I were you. Just that you are trying and that you are smoking less than in the past makes you successful. Focus on your successes, not your (perceived) failures.

Makes me wonder if a "quitting partner" website would help people -- that is, setup a website for people who want to quit smoking/lose weight/stop drinking/whatever where you report your progress and get encouragement from your partner(s). Like I said earlier -- some people work better with external motivation and maybe if more people had others expecting better things of them they would be more likely to do what they know they should do than if someone else was also expecting it of them. Silly, I know, but I think it might be helpful (and you could sell stuff!) hehe.

Have you quit too, Mivox?

More than two years ago, if I recall correctly. ;)

creepy!

I've just quit smoking after 10yrs, into my 4th day (trembling) and off I go to consult the net - (i wanted to see how long it would take for the complete mess my body is in to subside) - and I end up here again! - Go figure!?

Arrrrggg! - Frustration, but at least i'm frustrated in a familiar place..

Stopped since Oct. 1. still use some "chewing tobacco", but the habit is broken. Have to get rid of the nicotine addiction though. 30 years of pleasure, I loved smoking...

Benefits are greater though ;)
