well, I don't think there is anyone left that remembers my old truck that I drove down to Vegas years ago... maybe Keith P, maybe Mikkel.... 2_much was there, but I never ran into her on that trip. That was a rad-ilac of a truck.... Chevy long box crew cab 4X4 dually with a 454 under the hood and huge dog sled teams blazed down both the sides. It was half redneck, half cowboy, but it was the nicest dog truck around. You should have seen their faces when we pulled up to the Venetian in that thing... 5 limos there but everyone was staring at us to see who/what was going to come out of that thing.... hhehehehe we were as polished as that truck and stumbled into Emeril's for what may have been the best steak I have ever had, courtesy RedZoneGlobal.

...well, just like most of that crew, that dog truck is gone.... well, I guess it's still around somewhere, but it is no longer a dog truck... the polished stainless steps and brush-guard were taken off, along with the dog box. The decals were ripped off... a sad day indeed.

But the bright side of the story is I traded it in on new one:) A 2500 Dodge quad cab 4X4 long box with the High Output Cummins diesel. Its the color of metallic champagne, although they call it something else ....and it is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Has a much better turning radius than the old one and gas milage is at least 5-6mpg better. I'm getting my steps put back on soon.... not just to tie the dogs up around it but you really need them on this one... it's a climb to get up into this thing. It's still lacking decals, but I'm thinking I'm going to go with black ones this time.... something big and obnoxious, like a huge dog head or something... it's gotta look like a super hero is going to jump out of it, or it's not there yet:) When I show up at the races its gotta send a shutter through my competition before they even see my dogs, because when they do, I want that image to burn into their memory, because unless I pass them on the trail, they wont get another glimpse of them until I put them all back away:)

BTW... I've owed Fords and Chevys and now this Dodge, and I have to say, I love them all. God Bless Big American Trucks:)

Sounds like a nice set of new wheels, just the thing for heading across the country.

I've always thought a customized Hummer would make the ultimate dog truck, all painted up with a big bulldog. Not one of those new ones, the real Hummer.

Hey dogboy, I just heard on 60 minutes that you might qualify for a big tax credit. Something about trucks that weigh over 4000 lbs. and are used 50% for business.

re: Hummer - yeah, I always thought of those too... it sounds crazy, but it isnt big enough for what I do... doesn't have a big enough bed... right now my box is actually overhanging my 8' bed by 2 feet.... love those trucks too though:)

re: tax break - I'm going to have to pass on this one.... last truck I bought in my company name.... and then had to buy commercial insurance that runs about $1k more a year. This time I bought it personally and have it under personal insurance.... but my company is leasing it from me. I figured I dont really use it to *do* any work, I use it to *get* to work... so I would rather associate it with my racing, not with my 'business' if that makes any sense.

...on second thought.... maybe I'll call the insurance co again and see what is cool and what is not...50% biz... maybe that might work....

re: 6000lbs... we are talking GVWR here, right? I'm @ 9000lbs so I should qualify

President Bush has expanded a tax break for the purchase of the biggest of the big SUVs, which are classified as trucks.
“In the '80s, this benefit was created that would give an individual $25,000 in a tax break if they purchased a truck,” says Robinson.

The tax break applies to vehicles over 6,000 pounds, which used to mean things like delivery trucks. But today, it includes luxury mega-SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford Excursion

Dogboy,

Yes, I remember that night in Vegas well! My brother and I were just talking about DelMonico's the other night, and those huge 26oz, bone-in RibEye's! What a meal!

And you taking the Swede's for a ride in the Dog Mobile down the strip.... :)

You won't believe this but, I traded my Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins HO 6-Speed in.... :( I just wasn't pulling horses enough, to justify that beast.. Went to a Ram 1500 4x4 QuadCab, and then went into a Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe...

The Accord is a great in-town ride for Boise, but when I get back to Kansas, I'll have to go truck again....

Sweet ride, man. Do you make scary faces at people at stoplights?
My sister wanted to get a Big American Truck, but didn't have enough hauling to do to justify it. I think she got a Nissan Altima instead, more's the pity. (She married a guy with a truck, instead.)

Me, I got a bike with flat tires. Looks like I'm doomed to be a pedestrian.

Hey, how's Monster doing? Does he get to ride in the truck too, or is he still sick?

 Good luck with the tax credit-- it'd be nice to see someone get it for a vehicle they actually needed.

thanks folks...

Keith: that was a hell of a night.... we *all* got steaks... that was the house special, as I remember.... can't ever remember a better one before or afterwards. Yeah, I went 1 ton to 3/4 ton this time.... 3500 is a monster, and unless you *really* need to tow something huge all the time, you don't need them.

re: photos
... yeah, I need to get a free hosting account somewhere and post some this season... whenever I post anything in my profile, some joker always digs arounds trying to find out more about me... half the time they are wrong but I still hate people poking around. I dont know though.... I think the old truck may have been better looking, but this one is just flat out better... 4 years didnt seem like a long time to me, but they seem to have really improved tech-wise.

re: 9000lbs
... that is the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) ...that means fully loaded with full cargo, etc. it should not be over 9k. Empty, it wont weigh that much. No one really confirmed if that number was in terms of GVWR, but I cant imagine they mean anything else.

re: Do you make scary faces at people at stoplights?
....no not at all.... they are already a little afraid so I just smile:) The kids love love it and point... especially when I'm loaded and they can see the dogs. I get a kick out of them the most. The coolest is when we are going to a race... always wash it and clean it out, repack the whole thing, then strap the race sleds to the top of the box which makes the rig look even bigger. Its like were are all dressed up and painted for war.... cool feeling to hit the road in full colors.

re: Monster
... he is fine...full recovery/once again, a 2 eyed Monster:) He hasn't ridden inside this one yet... Geronimo my main pet dog does though. He always rides shotgun. Everywhere.... he is like a car alarm/theft deterent... except if you try to break in, he will attack you, bloody you for sure, and then I will wake up and shoot you:) hehehehe much better and effective than those Lo-Jack Systems

re:how many drunk WebmasterWorld members does that fit?
...including the driver, 6:) the rest of you will have to fit into the dog box, or ride on the snowmobile trailer
