It is an imagemap the co-ordinates specify where on the image that link becomes active.

Yep, imagemaps have been around for years... it's how you link small parts of large images to separate URLs without having to slice the image and bother with a table for layout.

if i design a page to be popular for say a keyphrase of "widgets united" do i need to buy a proper domain, as in i can use a free domain name like, www.geocities.com/bobharris/index.htm?

i dont know the process of developing this kind of technique?
