Networking 2 PC's?

How is it done...

The 'computer guy' reckons that the two PC's will be networked as they both connect to the adsl jobbie...

Is that right?

I run linux and I presume I'd use NFS to do this.....?

Thanks for any help ;)

One pretty cool way to know if your computers are linked would be to open a shell and try to ping the other computer.

If computer 1 has the ip address 111.222.333 then go to computer 2 and type "ping 111.222.333" it will tell you if it was able to send and receive a packet of date.

If you have an adsl router chances are they will be.

Some routers work in the same way as a hub would. They accept multiple connections with each able to access the other. So if you have each computer connected to it, and your web connection thren you probably have a network.

One cool thing to try now is running shell commansd on one machine to do things on the other. :)

Nick,

Is a ADSL router with hub (unusual) or is it a ADSL modem with a 4 port hub?

It's a wireless all-in-one with 4 ports...

cool.

I've been trying to sort out one of them but its a nightmare. I'm after either a system where it has actually got 4 * wireless ports, with a fixed modem/router to ADSL line, or a system with a standalone modem that is wireless to a wireless recieving/transmitting hub, that is hard wired to the pc's.

Linux makes it pretty easy. I just plugged it in and it detected it all and did all the work without a single hiccup...
