I'm in Western Connecticut. Some models have it coming close, but most now show it slipping to the west of us. 90% of these storms end up turning to the Northeast, which would bring us close to it.

The activity is increasing in the food stores.
Some people are adjusting their weekend travel plans.
I was looking forward to my 14 year old going on a two night campout this weekend ;).

More later

They're projecting an East Coast hit for Thursday, and I know some of us are flying to PubCon Wednesday night. Anyone heard anything about how this might affect air traffic?

As of 11pm Eastern Time the NOAA is showing a more inland track, meaning hopefully it will weaken more quickly. Storms are notoriously unpredictable, though, so it's probably too early to say what will happen travelwise. USAirways, the biggest carrier in the mid-Atlantic, has implemented its flexible travel policy [usairways.com] but only for those traveling from areas where Isabel is expected to make landfall.

If and when it does hit, well, it will definitely affect mid-Atlantic air traffic. Worst case scenario it would close at least three international gateways in the area-- Washington-Dulles (IAD, Star Alliance/Lufthansa/United hub), Baltimore-Washington (BWI, Icelandair), and Philadelphia (PHL, USAirways). That seems unlikely now, but there will probably be delays throughout the region, which may ripple through to traffic out of EWR, JFK, BOS, maybe even ORD.

But it's still too early right now to tell. All the travel sites are just saying to keep calling your airlines for updates.

I live along the current projected path and not too far from where they expect it to first hit land. It's currently moving 7 mph with winds at 120mph. I really hope it blows off into the ocean like most of them do. If it doesn't, I doubt I'll be online. We've had some pretty bad storms this summer knocking out electricity each time here. So, I expect this probably will do at least the same but also cause some nice damage along its path. I've lived through a number of hurricanes. I will take them anyday over a tornado which I think is far scarier.

About half the scheduled flights along the East Coast and nearly a fifth nationwide were canceled, said Air Travelers Association President David Stempler, who was briefed by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Washington's Reagan National Airport was closed at 4 p.m. EDT but was expected to reopen Friday morning.

Some flights to New York's LaGuardia Airport were delayed by as much as 13 1/2 hours, and some flights arriving at Philadelphia International Airport were delayed by as much as 9- 1/2 hours, the FAA said.

It's staying on path and missing us. However the wind is fairly strong here in western Conn. But there is an great picture [nvcc.edu] taken at sea, that is suggested is her.
