Hello, its early, the coffe machine is broken, and I have a math problem i need worked out. I am installing tiles in my kitchen:

My kitchen is 12 foot by 10 foot.

The tiles i want are 18 inches square.

there are 10 tiles in a box.

How many boxes do I need to cover my kitchen floor with tiles?

:)

Depends on the space. If you have different amounts of cabnets then you will have a lot of waste cuts that cannot be reused. I would say 9 boxes will do with breakage and cuts. If you are using snips instead of a wet saw then you may even need 10.

See if the mfgr will let you special order one 12' X 10' tile. Then you'd only need one box.

too much information

Just buy about 12 boxes just in case, get the tile down, save 1 or 2 tiles just in case you break something later, and take the other boxes back.

(I'm too lazy to pick up my calculator) ;o)

If it was just a straight 10*12 space, with no cabinets, you'd need a minimum of 6 boxes (by my possibly faulty calculations). I'd go with at least 3 extra boxes - for all of the reasons suggested by others.

I read 18" square as 18"x18" - if that's what you meant then:

18" x 18" = 2.25 sq ft
120 sq / 2.25 sq ft = 53.3333 tiles
53.3 tiles + 10% = 58.666667 tiles (industry standard for cuts and breaks)
58.666667 tiles / 10 tiles per box = 5.8666667 boxes

6 boxes

If the room is 12 feet wide, that works perfectly at 8 tiles across (you'll need to cut about an inch from every tile), so you won't have much waste.

If you can, get a diamond blade to cut the tiles - your job will be 10 times easier.

Good luck
