A U.S. based customer that i picked up a couple of years ago, has had varient luck and success with me SEO-ing their sites.

Now i'm G watching and opting purely for G, though i was trying to make sure that i wasn't missing MSN, ATW and their partners. Well i have by a long shot, and i am annoyed that someone's rather unrealistic view of the SE world, has allowed me to get one of his site's to the top of G, and do absolutely terrible in the rest of the engines.

It annoys me, and i do know better, but they pay for what they want, i feel i am doing a dis-service by not topping out on all the engine's, but their prime concern is google and nothing but google.
All the eggs in one backet - i hope it dose'nt brake.

Caine, I am surprised to hear it has become such a black and white thing for your client. I thought you could do similar things for all search engines and score pretty high on all. For example, I still put in both description and keyword metatags, even though I know Google doesn't look at either. Possibly the keyword metatag is by now worth little to any search engine but just in case ...

I am intrigued to see examples of what you feel works well for Google but goes against your rankings for other search engines. Please would you show an example or two.

Barry,

without getting to specific, i did a little check on a top term.

in Google - no.1 with a return of 314,000 serps
in MSN - no.4
in AV, Teoma, ATW, second page at best -> useless.

One site fits all strategy can work sometime's but its dependent, on searchers scope. This is a small specialised site and is geared to do well with G's algo as the main concern, hence the weightings of ATW, AV, Teoma, and Ink are different and i have not been addressing them with any importance.

Though adding to the complexity of this, i've had a site on the net since 1996, and it does well accross the board, basically front page of all the crawlers for thousands of terms. Its part of the net so to say, whereas the other has been around for a couple of years now, though undergoning changes in the past to get the right amount of potency to do well in G.

Don't get me wrong the site does very well with G, obviously there is area's of concern, but i am happy with it so far, though i am unheppy with its performance in the other engine's.

note: regaring specific's, the TOS does not permit url or term dropping.
