I expect this sort of thing in the UK we are rather good ay nausing things up on a grand scale but...

Customs officials have told a Sydney newspaper the stolen computers held thousands of confidential files, including top-secret communications between customs investigators, Australian Federal Police and ASIO

Security bungle [australianit.news.com.au]

I like this bit :

"Inside, they spent two hours disconnecting two computers, which they put on trolleys and wheeled out of the room, past the security desk, into the lift and out of the building,"

two hours, how slow it that. Takes smash and grab to a new level.

Made me laugh :-) Thanks for posting.

Its a serious reason why Australians should be concerned about their privacy and data. The agencies that want to hold details on them are obviously very very competent :-)

Supports my theory that a person with a tan jumpsuit, hand trolley and clipboard with official looking paperwork on it could walk off with just about anything big enough to need a trolley to move it. heheheh.

Sometime before 9/11, someone walked into Cleveland's airport and walked out with an ATM.

I remember it was before 9/11 because they had parked their white van in the departures area. Two guys, wearing blue jumpsuits, walked up to an ATM in the ticketing area, disconnected it, and walked out with it on a handtruck.

No one questioned them because they thought they were there to repair it. Even one of the cops who was working the front area, when questioned on the local news, admitted he should have probably asked for some ID, but didn't.

I remember a story about a bunch of geezers dressed in brown overalls that walked into a flash hotel in London :-

"we have come to pick up the Winchesters (expernsive leather seats) for cleaning, sign here"

I think they got away with 7 at £1000+ each. Balls of steel required for this sort of caper me thinks.

Balls of steel required for this sort of caper me thinks.

Yeah, along with the jumpsuits and hand trolleys, I imagine those would come in handy too. ;)

This story worries me. Confidential personal information will be exploited - accounts could be plundered - but that's not what worries me.

The thieves could be linked to a terrorist organization. If so, I'm sure they'll find the data files that identify names and addresses of all the security employees very interesting. Not to mention the work schedules, passcodes to restricted areas, and level of monitoring ability etc... Goodness - I wouldn't be flying on Quantas anytime soon.

lorax I saw on the tv news here in UK that british airways is discussing fitting anti missile technology to its commercial airliners.

Me I would like that they also fit radar and parachutes :-)

Balls of steel...

Wouldn't these set off the metal detectors?

Wouldn't these set off the metal detectors?

Not if you coat 'em in stealth airplane paint first... hehehehe

If you have balls of steel they are clearly prosthetic, therefore they can be removed prior to the caper. No worries wtr metal detection
