I think my monitor is funny as I thought it was nice but someone with much greater talent with artistic stuff than I disagrees strongly heh!

Have you ever read Kurt Vonnegut? In one of his books (can't remember which) one characters favourite colour is "baby <expletive> brown". You've found it.

Looks like beer <expletive> brown.
Too red to really be brown, could be burnt.

More to burnt red for me, with a bit on the orange side. Like most colors, a whole lot of it would be awful, but from here it would be fine depending on what you did with it.

>could it be burnt?

Possibly only if you'd had curry the night before....

Burnt red on my LCD, but brown on the CRT.

Burnt red on my CRT - LCD will have to reserve judgment till I get home.

Would work well with varying shades of teal, but, like all colours, you can't tell if it's a nice colour or not until you put it into context with other, complimentary, colours.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go with the other suggestion that was #EF9C18 - A little less in yer face with the possibility of brown... heh! ;)

P.S. Just poking a little fun, especially after a 12 hr marathon of computering!

If you roll with #EF9C18 then #1063E7 is your strongest complimentary.

And I would go with neutrals (shades of grey) for the rest, and plenty of white as that's one strong colour!

Try this: http://www.boogiejack.com/schemer.html (not my site). It is really good for when you have one colour and you want to see which colours go with it.

Looks like a definite "rust" color on my work monitor... Dunno what it would look like on my laptop, but the colors on that monitor change drastically depending on the angle it's tilted at anyhow.

Yeah, ya know I played and played with the alternative and I'm sticking with rust/brown i think it fits nicely with the other colors and I'm quite happy with it.

Highlights an interesting problem though eh?

The whole range of colors from brown through orange are very device-dependent I've found. I had what I though was a subtle yellow background in a few divs, until I saw it on a client's system and it was more like bright terra-cotta.

Blues are very safe - boring, I now, but safe.

Yes, and blues actually fit nicely with that rust/brown tedster.... In fact, I came to that from the blues... ;)

My pet peeve: There's no way of using a beige/peach color in a web design. I like warm beige/peach/parchment type colors for backgrounds, but depending on the monitor they usually come out looking yellowish, pinkish, or sort of a puke-orange color.
