I just need to whine somewhere and I'm gonna put it here b/c I am sure I am not the only one who has dealt with this.

I am trying to refinance my house and I have just about had it up to here with the mortgage company. I have never had this many attempts to take me for a ride in my 27 tender years. And the sad thing is that this company is reputable, has won awards for customer service, endorsed by the BBB even.

I don't know if it's b/c I am female or if they do this to everybody but I think the loan officer has used every darn trick in the book to try to screw me out of money and get himself a better commission. He even tried to tell me today that a law that I knew existed did not. Thank god for 24 hour internet access so that I could quote the date and wording of the law to him.

If it wasn't for the fact that I had a lock a great rate, I'd be out the door. But now it turns out that I might not have that lock due to a paper error (oh, he was very apologetic and this only came out after he tried to sell me on a loan at a rate a percent and a half higher and I refused).

Argg! If it's this bad with a "good" company, then I would like to know what idiot gets there mortgage through a company that sends them a spam email, and is, IMHO, a disreputable company.

I can relate. I am getting irritated with my mortgage broker myself. Working to refi my house.

Loan approved, just need to get appraisal going, then lock in when ready etc.

The guy is never in the office. We have been playing phone tag over a week. Last Friday I left a message. Called again yest and left voice mail. He missed me at lunch time today, saying he'd be in all afternoon. I called at 1:30 (still out) and again at 3:00 (on phone.) About to take my money somewhere else.

I refinanced by filling out a bunch of online mortgage applications (I found them through web searches though, not email spam... hehehe), and ended up playing three different mortgage companies against each other at the same time.

I got the appraisal in my own name, with the agreement that the appraiser would "transfer" it into whatever mortgage company's name I wanted, so none of the mortgage companies could keep the appraisal. I told all of them what terms the competitors were offering, and basically made them all beg for it.

It was still a major PITA, and I don't plan on ever doing a re-fi on this house again, but I didn't get absolutely RIPPED OFF like I did on my first mortgage, when I just went through the first local mortgage company that said they could handle it.

It's easier to bully people you're not sitting across a table from. The internet has been a blessing to those of us who can write well, but hate face-to-face confrontation. :)
