Before that I had it going 10 days, but along came the windows update to spoil things :P So really 24 days, and about 5.5 billion bytes bytes of network traffic.
Anyone ever made an effort and gone longer? :)

Sudden temperature change is the main cause of chip failure. Every time you turn your computer on after it has been off long enough to cool off, you are putting thermal stress on the electrical components.
We only turn our computers off to reboot after a system crash. The computer uses very little electricity, and the money you save by turning your computer off when not in use, will be wiped out by early component replacement.
The monitor is the real power hog, and should be turned off when not in use. Also the CRT display only has a fixed lifetime, and that lifetime gets eaten up even if it is on with a black screen saver.
LCD displays may be different, im hot sure on that one.
