Okay, here we go:

American Virginia Stool Shower. Developed in the 1830s, the all - wood unit was made of walnut and included a revolving seat, much like a piano stool. The machine was placed in a tub, and a hand-operated lever pumped water up to the batller's head and shoulders. A foot pedal controlled the scrub brush that could be worked up and down the user's back. This unit didn't only clean away the dirt and grime, it provided an aerobic workout as well.

Thats it. Bunltd is the winner.

That was quick.

With no google picture archive, and maybe only
3 sources of this picture on the internet, I figured it would take a little longer than this.

Well, my husband wandered in and thought it had something to do with water (thanks honey). And lgn, you mentioned going historical last week...

Sit down shower started us off then we narrowed it down to a search for hand pump shower found a similar image at whitehousehistory.org, which led me to search for "hand pump shower inventor" (a search for "hand pump shower patent" wasn't useful) where I found theplumber.com and their History of Plumbing pages, one more click and there it was.

Now I have to find another worthy gizmo! Sorry it was so quick.

<edit> my husband said I found it quickly because I'm wearing a Google t-shirt this morning...</edit>
