I don't get real exited about many movies, animated or not, but Spirited Away managed to combine an original story with fantastic artwork and a bit of Salvador Dali. (no face).

Yeah, the writers threw some morality issues in there but I can excuse that if the storyline is good.

What is this Spirited Away. I have not heard of it. Is it manga, digifx? I am a true anime lover. The art that goes into it is amazing:-) So yeah, what is it?

A beautify animated move -- a little reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland but with Japanese sensibilities. A young girl finds herself in the spirit world and has to find allies and friends to survive and escape.

It won the Oscar last year (if I remember right) for best animation. Go and see it! Take the whole family!

I've watched it twice now, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The artwork is great and the story pulls you in and keeps you there.

Ya' gotta love that faceless ghost. Great movie.

Another overlooked movie, different genre, is by the Chinese director of Raise The Red Lantern. It's a stylish (high-brow?) kung fu flick entitled, Hero. It stars jet li, Tony Leung (has Humphrey Bogart appeal), Maggie Cheung, and other stars. Very beautiful use of colors and music-gorgeous all around. Was nominated for best foreign film at the Academy Awards.
