Would you like fries with that?

so ... will they go the way of filtering out adult content, checking people's screens to see that they aren't accessing it, or risk legal suits because of what they allowed customer A to see on customer B's screen as she walked past...

Read about that today in the paper - Hmmm, McStarbucks, anyone? But how does that help me when I'm trying to keep my 6 year old eating his mcnuggets and not playing with the toy or not begging to run off to play in the habitrail? Oh sure I lug my laptop everywhere - NOT. [sit down, eat, sit down, eat, sit down, damn the connections down, eat, sit down, two more bites, two more bites] Yay, productive time at McD's...

OTH, I'm not in any of the markets where they're offering WiFi - Might be useful travelling though...

It works great to hit food places for a connection.

What these guys aren't realizing, is that people come, they use the computer, they set, they don't buy much but take up space for hours.

Last summer I was unemployed. I came to stay with my boyfriend who lived just outside NYC. He got a new Mac G4 Powerbook with wireless antenna built in.
...
I just took that laptop, wandered into the City, and found every single darn hotspot they had. It was sweet. I'd started out paying $6/hr or more at an Internet cafe on Bleecker St., but with that laptop I could find about a dozen free spots to just sit with my lunch (brought from home), or sit nursing a chic little iced chai or something. Unemployed and nearly penniless, I sat in Bryant Park or little indie cafes and surfed for jobs and played with the Internet. I had a whole route worked out so I could hit the best spots in sequence, and some of them had outlets I could plug into to recharge. I got lots of envious stares because the computer was so cute. It was a blast. I am a huge fan of wireless hotspots being everywhere. I set up a lot of great nights out with friends over email and such, too. Great stuff!

That said, I wouldn't really want to surf at McD's... Too greasy and you'd have the wrong sort of people staring at you.

It says 45 minutes with a 3 dollar purchase. I hope the one by me gets it...I will start bring my laptop to work and go to mc donalds to play during my lunch break.

Hopefully they will get some semi-healthy food while they are at it so I would not mind eating there.

you people are hardcore, I like eating and relaxing during lunch!

I stare at my monitor all day, don't need to be doing it at lunch too! :)

>...what?

Exactly. You mean... lunch is supposed to be a break from work?

Ohhhh... that might be why they call it a "lunch break"...
I never got that before.
Hmm... I'll have to bring that one up with my manager.

But gently. I kinda liked my unemployed summer in NYC, but I have a feeling that I like it more in retrospect than I did at the time.

I use my lunch break to check email and check my spending/affiliate programs.

I have not taken an actual break at lunch since our 3rd person for our UNO circle at work left, it is no fun with just 2 people.

Hey this may be great. We have a retail competitor open up across the street from macdonalds.

Now I can use the Mcdonalds wireless to setup a wireless with a webcam hidden in the bushes to spy on the competition.

Now I will be able to keep track of every customer that enters our competitors store, directly from the web.

instead of using spyware ....

wouldn't it be easier to put a stand outside the competitor's store giving out free cookies and track them... :-p

(sorry, lame!)
