I just got the new Inspiron 8500 from Dell. The video card has a dual output feature.

I would like to know how I can change the resolution of the second screen without affecting
my laptop screen.

Also, does anyone know a quick fix to the keyboard issue?

What video card do you have? Most dual head video cards allow you to change the resolution, unles you are just mirroring your monitor, then you can not (IIRC).

I have a dual monitor setup at home (two 19"s, NICE!), if you are going to be using two monitors often, purchase UltraMon, great dual mon software.

As for the keyboard issue? Sounds like your SOL! I use a Microsoft wireless desktop with my Dell 4500 system, I used the OEM Dell keyboard for ~6 months, without a problem.

I had similar one like this last week.

Go into the device manager and find the video card. You need to go through all the options and find one called "clone". That will then resize for the second output so that is works fine. It was related to the fact that the lcd screen was a non standard size (1900X1200) in my case and the second device could not handle it.
