What's On the Grill?

Long weekends in my family always mean a lot of cooking and the 4th of July is usually the biggest summertime bash.

Apart from the roasted hog and steaks this year we added a bit of cajun cuisine. Jambalaya is on and the chicken gumbo is simmering, (stirring the gumbo with something resembling a boat oar). Steamed mudbugs are on the menu, (yeah, I know they don't sound appetizing but they're pretty tasty) and of course there's corn on the cob, baked potatos, burgers and hotdogs and it looks like there isn't a crab left in the ocean that has a leg left to stand on.

There's two pickup trucks with the beds iced down stocked with beer and a few kegs stuck in iced barrels lounging in the shade.

Looks like the party will last until Sunday. Later of course, after consuming lots of alcohol, we'll fling large metal-tipped Jarts at each other and play with colorful explosives. The poker games will begin and the teenagers will want to know if they can take off on the horses and ride through the woods. They won't be allowed to do that of course so they'll get stuck listening to music and playing cards while they gripe about the adults keeping them away from the liquor.

Mornings always begin with pancakes, biscuits, sausage gravy and bacon.

So, what's on the menu this weekend? We're having gluttony, booze and explosives... ;)

Just the usual; steaks, burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, baked spuds -- all cooked on the grill.

Well, here in Texas, we're celebrating with fajitas and margaritas accompanied by salsa, chips, chile con queso and pico de gallo and all the yummy stuff. If the thunderstorms go away, then we'll swim some too...

So what am I doing in Foo? I've got guests coming! [rushing off to prepare]

I know Lorax, I'm stuck inside making crab-stuffed mushrooms and baking bread and everyone else is outside having fun. ;)

What's on yer grill Lorax? Lisa mentioned margaritas and 4 people took off to grab more blenders and more tequila.

DG: I didn't get directions to your house, could you sticky them? ;)

>> I didn't get directions to your house

ROFLMAO - yeah - give us the mapquest URI.

>> my grill

Not much I'm afraid. My 2 year old daughter is down for her nap, after which I'm taking her to the store with me. Momma is at work and won't be home till 5:30ish.

But I'll tell ya, I've got an awful thirst for a nice cold beer. But not while I'm the only parent here. Had burgers yesterday so I'm thinking I might get some steak and put a dry rub on it and serve it with some fresh salad greens out of the garden dressed with a homemade dressing. Maybe I'll even get some watermelon if they have it at the co-op.

I'm planning on having a WebmasterWorld bash after I get moved into the new house.

There's what appears to be a cannon in the back field now which is cause for concern. ;) I'm out for the day.

The margaritas are great, but we got rained out of the swimming... Even though I'm stuffed those crab stuffed mushrooms sure sound good... So DG did you end up with margaritas too?

Margaritas are still spilling out of pitchers. The sherif-summoning cannon is a huge success unless you ask the horses, they don't seem to care for it. ;)
