Any advice on where to visit, eat and more importantly drink?

Hi All,

I'm off to Dublin for a week in mid-August. Business tip but my g/f fancied a <not too clean ;)> holiday. Anyway, this is the first post I'm already wandering off top. We are staying in the city centre. Any advice on decent places to eat/drink and visit?

Hey Chris_f,

Not from Dublin myself, but there are a few members on WebmasterWorld who are (EBear, glengara, jimmykav, stunbunny and DotBum I think)!

Quite a bit to do and see in Dublin - what's your poison/preference?

When in Dublin, theres only one drink, at least you won't have to worry about eating :)

Just ask any local for directions to Temple Bar. The rest will take care of itself, to be sure.

Hi chris_f

Sticky me with preferences and budgets and I'll happily round up a few suggestions. Hope to be heading in the opposite direction for the Mersey around that time.

I spent two weeks in Eire last year and I found the best places to go and have a good time were south of Dublin - you get more of an atmosphere of the "old Ireland" there - not just the "touristy" places. You still get great beer and food down south but also some awesome bands playing and of course Irish dancing - till late (beyond closing time).

It's been a couple years since I've been to Dublin. But it's my absolute favorite city. Temple Bar is really great - that whole area is super. When we went to the Guiness factory, we took a bus out and then walked back to the city - stopping at many pubs on the way. The Irish are probably the friendliest people I've ever met. We met a lot of great people on that walk.

Living in Mexico I have to survive on cans of Guinness Draught hand carried by thoughtful clients.

:~(

Please drink 6 million pints in my honor.

Thanks for all the help.

I've noted all the places and now I think I'm going to run out of time. Ah well! I just have to go back ;).

lots of great places.

Start at one end of temple bar and work your way down to the other.

Good pubs
The Quays Bar - Temple bar (full of tourists thogh)
Porterhouse - Parliament Street
Stag's Head - off Dame st.
Thomas Reeds - Dame St.
Cafe en Seine - Dawson Street (trendy)
SamSara - Dawson Street (v. trendy)

More upmarket places are:
Octagon Bar in the Clarence (U2's gaff)
Morrison Hotel (across the river from the Clarence)

Great pizza places are:
Romanos on Capel Street
Da Pino on Dame St.
Milano one in Temple Bar but they had 2 or 3

Noodes:
Wagga Mamma - St. Stephens Green
Yamamouri - South Great George's St
Aya - Clarendon Street

A warm up pint in the Long Stone (around the corner from Trinity College) and then on to Waggamammas for dinner.

Then hit the pub crawl...

hi chris_f

I live in Dublin and there is a lot of stuff you can do in a week. Temple bar is the highlight of the night scene in Dublin for many people, with plenty of pubs, restaurants and Nightclubs in the area. Among my favourits in temple bar are morgan and The Porter House (micro brewery)

Grafton Street is one of the two main shopping streets in Dublin, and is home to McDaids (a pub famous as a watering hole for Irish literary elite). This is a pub in the true Irish fashion, often copied around the world, but never matched.

If I had a week in Dublin / Ireland, I would definitely take a trip to Galway. Rent a car and it will be about 2.5 / 3 hours drive.

Have a great time and sticky me if you have any questions.
