Apparently, eBay sellers can compete on keywords, starting at 10 cents/click, and lead the clickers to an item or an about me page.
Hmm... interesting potential, for reaching an audience that's looking for an excuse to buy more stuff.
Seems sort of a nobrainer, the other article mentioned that Ebay is 1/10th or slightly less than Wal-Mart in terms of transaction volume...imagine being able to reach an audience of 20 million users, or the 150,000 advertisers that leverage Ebay to drive their online business.
Huge potential, considering that Google only has 100K advertisers, and Overture (with their latest figure) is up to 88K advertisers. The new Espotting / FindWhat merger boasts roughly half that of Overture, with 40K advertisers.
Ebay, if they do it right, could quickly become the #2 or even #1 Pay Per Click search engine.
They also signed a multi year deal with DART (division of Doubleclick) to deliver the tracking end of things.
The rates now are totally different from what they were three years ago -> and in some keyword markets, the CPM deals are looking a lot cheaper than the competitive keywords on the top PPC engines.
Anything & everything that provides a good ROI is worth looking into.
Shouldn't it be in the PPC forum, seems pretty important news to pass over as gossip.
Interesting though.
I can't see it working just from Double Click sources, or will Double Click buy one visitor from Overture/Espotting/Google etc. and then sell all their advertisers at however much they are prepared to pay. Looks like a Dealtime model.
DoubleClick's involvement is in supplying the technology for delivering the ads, through their web application for ad management called DART [doubleclick.com]. DART is a heavy duty enterprise level application.
I have used DART before and it does some pretty cool tricks.
Keywords on eBay is one of the most efficient and effective ways to increase your eBay sales
This quote from their admarketplace site makes it sound as though ken_b is correct, and it is only for eBay online stores. Guess we'll know for certain tomorrow.
I am wondering if eBay will see an increase in the number of eBay stores by sellers who find it attractive to always come up number one for the particular keywords ebayers are looking for. You can have an eBay store without having to run any regular auction listings, and not too long ago, eBay made the switch where you could have store items run indefinitely (prior to this, you would have to relist every 30, 60, 90 or 120 days, depending on the length of the listing).
