I have many questions id like to ask about brett and or WW. Im sure others do, perhaps we can post them here and brett can choose which he would like to answer. Very much in the fashion in which the other thread was conducted.
Ive have a question or two id like to know the answer to.
1) How many Members are there?
2) Where do you imagine webmasterworld to be in 10 years? How would you like it to develop, or would you like it to stay the same, as it is pretty damm near perfect!
3) Will there ever be a day when you get tired of WW and give it all up? (hope not)
I have more, but ill stop there.
Any thoughts? Anything to add.

6)What were the problems you faced while maintaining this community?

If so do you expect that to be equally successful?

Id just like to second mil2k no cryptic answers allowed
Brett, are you making a living at WebmasterWorld?
What were you thinking when you started these forums? What gave you the idea? Did you have a plan? A business plan? Or, did you just let it take on a life of its own?
At the end of the day, and you look around with your feet up on the desk at the WebmasterWorldplex, what do you see?
Do you ever sleep?Very little would be my guess. I have got replies by him at what can be 4 am U.S. time.
Yes, he sleeps. Although some nights he definitely gets less sleep than others.
Do you have pets?
There are two cats who have adopted him and absolutely adore him. They've been known to knock each other out of the way to get his attention.

It is not a statistic that we keep. Member numbers do not make a site. Over the years, we've had somewhere around 200k signups. However, we run a member file weed every month to remove lurkers. Unless they are a contributing member, we do not want them taking up database space - we want active contributing engaged members that are here to give as well as take.
As to specific numbers of logins, daily members, or active members, that is obviously considered proprietary. Let me just sum it up by saying, we are the largest forum on the web today - by a couple times over.
> Where do you imagine webmasterworld to be in 10 years?
Replacing the .comp hierarchy and/or all of Usenet.
>How would you like it to develop, or would you like it to stay the same, as it is pretty damm near perfect!
Expand the offerings and continue to ask the members to raise their standards as we do ours.
> Will there ever be a day when you get tired of WW and give it all up? (hope not)
I've seen the worst days and survived. Nothing but roses from here on out. Why would I change?
> What do you do for living? When?
lol [webmasterworld.com].
>1)How did you begin your career? What was your background?
Comp sci, 8-bit production line ml programming, OS programming, more tech work, BBS operations (managed large 24line bbs).
> 2)When did you think about Webmasterworld?
1983
> 3)What were your expectations when you started out?
To share info with others. Grew from there. Focused on members, members, and more members until I couldn't email anymore.
> 4)Did SE representatives contact you or vice versa for posting out here? (I am asking about Tim and GG)
There are 5 major reps in the forums. They came here by mixed methods.
>5)Who are the people that are associated with WW from the beginning?
If I understand the question, the easiest solution is to check the join dates.
> 6)What were the problems you faced while maintaining this community?
Keeping the peace with a worldwide audience from every major language and culture. The diversity of people visiting is amazing. My diplomacy and language skills have been greatly enhanced since running WebmasterWorld. (tip: Niche is pronounced knee-shhh in the UK)
> 7)What do you think is the Future of SEO two years down the line?
All that is left is the eulogy. It's already dead. There is only GO (Google optimization) at this time.
> Is there a "next project" that your working on?
Yes. Top secret, but I will say it has to do with cats (see msg #16).
>If so do you expect that to be equally successful?
yes.
> If someone approached you and offered you a couple of million dollars for WW would you take it?
been close to there - been close to doing that - still here.
> How did you start with an empty forum. Did you post some questions with another nick, just to get started?
Used newsletters to acquire the audience and linked out from stories in the newsletter.
> Do you ever sleep?
4 hrs a day whether I need it or not.
> Do you have pets?
Yes, two adopted cats.
> If you were a tree, what kind of tree you you be?
> and if you fell in the woods, and no one was there to hear it, would you still make a noise?
Yes, and it would be wise if small children were not around to hear those 'noises'.
> How many companies approached you for you to optimise their site?
96, 1 a month. 97-1 a day. 98-10 a day. 99-20 a day, 2000-5 a day, 2001-1 a day, 2002-3 a week, 2003-shingle down.
> How many companies approached you for you to be an internet consultant?
I've never kept that statistic really. Have to be lower than you would imagine, because most of the consulting is related to seo.
> What's the biggest amount of money somebody offered you to either consult or optimise their site and did you accept?
Six figures - yes.
> how many daily hits do you get to webmaster world?
You can ask anything but that. There are some things in a webmasters life that are just too personal :)
> apart from search engines, who is your biggest referer?
Peoples private start pages and email referrers.
> 1. Whats your favourite site ( apart from WW ) from an informational perspective.
SlashDot, LockerGnome, Wired.
> 2. Whats your favourite site ( apart from WW )from a design perspective.
AllTheWeb.
> 3. Whats your favourite site ( apart from WW )from a coding perspective.
Yahoo. The depth of programming behind the site is incredible.
> 4. Whats your favourite site ( apart from WebmasterWorld )from an SEO / SEM perspective.
ODP.
Any chance of a picture of your cats? - go on they will be world famous :)
