The supermarket closes in 10mns from this depressing revelation.
So I bought a six pack of of the supermarkets own 'gold' beer' and guess what? It's LOVELY! ;);) Only 5.9% but what is it with alcohol content in beer?
It seems that the more alcohol, the better it tastes. But, I know from bitter experience that there is a 'cap' at around 7/9% depending on the brew. At some point it starts tasting like syrup.
Why is this?

Why, in england is the homelesses favorite brew called Tenants? Seems rather ironic....

I make a rye ale I REALLY like. The rye gives it a good bite, without too much hops bitterness...
I finally made a hefeweisen I consider a "keeper" recipe, by using bavarian hefeweisen yeast mixed with a neutral-flavor dry ale yeast... it toned down the fruitiness of the bavarian yeast nicely, and ended up producing an incredibly flavorful but not overbearing beer.
Still haven't perfected my stout, but the current recipe is great after aging for a month in the bottle. I think the next batch needs to go back to fresh brewed espresso, rather than trying to "cheap out" and use coffee though.
