How many computers have you fried?

I'm killing my third in less than 4 years

Alright, I don't know what I'm doing to these suckers, but is it normal for webmasters to go through roughly a computer per year? My first two lasted about a year each, and the one I'm on now I've had for a year and a half, and it's showing the early signs of heart failure. It's become a running joke.

How about installing one of those little 9volt cooling units from a portable plastic cool box?

20 posts and not a single Mac user in sight yet.

Well, there's my monitor (Apple 17" Studio Display CRT) with a known board design problem... they fry themselves regularly, but because Apple was transitioning to the LCD line at the time, they never bothered to design a non-self-destructing board for it. After it went kablooie the first time, I bought the extended warranty for it.

Then there's my dual processor G4. It was the first generation to have the softly glowing, color-coordinated blue led in the power button instead of the green one. The new power button design was responsible for frying a power supply and the FIRST replacement fried another power supply and the motherboard. Apple finally released a new power button design that didn't periodically fry the machine. Third time's a charm.

All under warranty, thank god. But being the one responsible for the introduction of Mac hardware into an all-Windows office, where my boss had NEVER had any problems with equipment failure on any of the 10 Dell machines in the office, it sure didn't make Mac look very good.

All that said, I have old AppleII machines sitting around the house that still work great.

I have/manage lots of PCs, most *x, never fried one.
[but very paranoid about this, i.ex. additional fans, no case if I think machine is overloaded etc..]

Hardware I've fried, are _many_ notebook's h.d.
[-> I've some identical laptops, and only 1 h.d. swapping from them]
Took some months to realize that carrying laptop's h.d. in motorcycle lateral bags isnt a good idea.
