Ok, I better stop there or everybody will believe I'm a future member of the AA. :)
In the fridge: Canadian beer (Molson, Lebatt Blue), and Tequiza (beer / agave which tastes like tequila-lime-beer)... Do you detect a theme on the tequila, perhaps? Sure you do.
Do we drink that much? Nah, but it's good to be prepared.

Gin
Another member of the fine family of spirits you must have on hand if you ever entertain. Bad gin tastes the way you may imagine aftershave would taste. With gin it's especially important to go for the good stuff. Serving anything less is like throwing a wedding and serving your guests reheated take out food.
Vermouth
Dry vermouth, the essential component to a Martini, although for me a drop will suffice; and sweet vermouth, the other component to a Manhattan.
Kentucky Bourbon
Again, go for the good stuff. I'm not being elitist. The good stuff not only tastes better and goes down smoother, but it won't rot your liver and blow your next day the way the cheap stuff does. Bourbon is the essential ingredient to a Manhattan.
Scotch
To me, a good single malt scotch spells, REWARD. I have solidified many friendships around a good bottle of scotch. May the force always be with Scotland.
Irish Whiskey
Okay, this is arguable, but I have to say that there are many fine brands of Irish Whiskey, and affordable too, that it seems almost a shame not to have some around the house. Serve it for guests, serve it for when your server crashes just as googlebot is at the door.
Wine
Wine is great before, during, and after dinner. I always maintain a collection of fine wines from which I break one out on special occasions. I believe in Life before Death, and a fine wine affirms life and brings pleasure to me like very few things on earth do.
(Please note that I qualified that last statement).
Beer
Beer has been with humankind for what, 5,000 years? Excluding cultural reasons, a Beer's place in the refrigerator cannot be denied.
As with anything else you can fit into your face, body or mind, there are some who can and do abuse them. But I think in most places the abusers are the exceptions and not the rule.

I need something other than beer?
Currently I have some Vodka and Tequilla
The beer has taken over the bathroom closet (good steady temperature for fermenting), and always has a spot in the fridge.
But it's the time of year to buy bags of frozen mixed fruit, a bottle of decent tequila, and make slushies! (The fruit qualifies it as a "health smoothie" in my book...)
Peppermint Schnapps and Chocolate Milk is usually our drink of choice.
And I almost forgot, we also have a nearly full bottle of Tawny Port.
