Stand alone version of IE a thing of the past?

Another shrewed business move or a potential crack in the empire?

Just how wide could the implications of such a move be? Millions of old browsers out there w/o security upgrade patches could wreck havoc on the net, on personal computers, with the aid of new virus strains.

It could be a huge opportunity for the Operas of the world to come on strong if MSN doesn't make something in the OS that thwarts other browsers.

Would being forced to buy a new OS every year (and maybe a new computer if they make it bloated enough) for no sensible reason finally be enough to get people to realize there are alternatives out there, at least in the browser market?
