Something strange seems to be happening to my laptop when I start up I get the connect to the internet box flashing up as if something loading is trying to access the net.

This happens before NAV and NIS 2003 load. All other programmes load but I need to click cancel quite a few times on the Connect to the Internet box before they will load.

Is there any way to find out exactly what process is causing this.

Have checked for viruses and do not seem to be infected, but just the fact it asks me to connect before NAV and NIS load worries me.

Maybe not the most elegant solution, but if you install Zone Alarm, it will monitor all attempts at outgoing connections, intercept them, flag them, and ask whether you want to allow the connection.

What OS are you running? You could use msconfig or similar to checkthrough the various startup options/files. There are various (free) tools - RegCleaner is a good one - that will do the same thing.
