Dear webmasters!

I hope you all are fine and in good health. Can anyone tell me how can I take screen shots for tutorials? The Print Screen button prints whole screen and I only want to print the active window/dialogue box.

Try to find a product called snagit.
All kinds of input/output options. Works like a champ.

Just to clarify - on the PC:

Control+PrintScreen = Full Screen

Alt+PrintScreen = Active Window

The screen shot is copied to the clip board, which you can then paste into whatever you want.

go to the screen you want to capture. Press "prt scr" then open up your chosen imaging package and select paste. The screen capture should be passed to your imaging application.

I typically use "xwd -root ¦ xwdtopnm ¦ pnmtopng"
Then I cut it down with gimp if I need to.

I've been using Paint Shop Pro for screen capture. You can select the area you want to capture and edit and tweak the file right in PSP, or import to a Photoshop file or a gif or whatever.

Yup. On just about any Mac:

Command (or Apple) + Shift + 4 gives you selective control over what the shot looks like.

For a quick, full screen capture, it's Command (or Apple) + Shift + 3.

Both times you're greeted with a neat Camera sound to signify your success.

The resulting file is stored in the root of your Mac's hard drive, in a PICT format.
